There’s been something heartwarming seeing all these various mangaka, animators, game developers, voice actors, and singers paying their respects on Twitter.

The reality of his passing still isn't setting in. Like so many others I used to look forward to watching the original dub of Dragon Ball Z on Toonami back in the late 90s and eventually seeking out alternative means to watch the rest of the series. I can't even imagine how different my life would be had DBZ not opened up a new world of entertainment and culture to me.

Man, Oda and Kishi's story about meeting him for the first time and nerding out together was heartwarming. Their friendship and their love for Toriyama made it all the more upsetting to read.

First the quake and plane crash, now this. I hope Japan's year doesn't get any worse...Anyway, Kodansha also expressed their condolences. https://www.instagram.com/p/C4RK80QxS7M/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Masako Nozawa's comment legitimately made me tear up...

I had posted a link to the tweet Akihiro Hino made regarding Toriyama's passing in the initial thread regarding the news, I figured it would be apt to post it in this thread as well.

It's not only anime and manga world that is grieving. I'm seeing a lot of non-anime and non-manga stuff expressing sadness for Toriyama's passing. I mentioned this earlier on another post, but legendary American comic book artist/writer Rob Liefield has tweeted about Toriyama's passing. Archie Comic also tweeted the same thing about Toriyama's death too. So western/American comic book are taking Toriyama's death too. I'm waiting for DC Comics (given that Goku was influenced by Superman) to do the same. I haven't seen Marvel Comics expressing sadness, I hope both DC and Marvel can express their sadness for Toriyama's passing. I'm waiting for Jim Lee's statement given that he did a drawing of Goku back in 2018 on Twitter. I want to hear from writers and artists that worked on Superman like Geoff Johns, Mark Waid, Dan Mora, and Grant Morrison about Toriyama's passing or how Dragonball/Goku influenced their work on Superman given that Toriyama may have also indirectly influence (and also got reference in) some Superman comic/graphic novels (and other DC Comics products too).

EDIT: I just stumbled upon on Reddit that Dial H for Hero, another DC Comics publication had also paid homage to Toriyama's work, particularly Dragonball. So IMO, I think it's imperative that DC Comics needs to release a statement about Toriyama's death and how his work impacted and influenced DC's works.

Thanks for all your comments with links to other condolences everyone.

We wanted to get this particular article posted somewhat quickly with the messages from those who have worked with Toriyama or were close to him in some way. We have another article being drafted with a LOT of other condolences, but it will take a while to translate it all. Please continue to give links of anything we might have missed, and we'll try to put as many as we can in our next article.

Tears just flowed as I was reading these condolences for the legend himself. Dragon Ball was my getaway to the fantastic world of anime, and then the first manga I completed. I'm so bad at dealing with death that everytime I read something about his sudden passing, there's still this heavy feeling in my chest. RIP Toriyama-sensei.

Thanks for this. There were a lot of machine translations that were not getting the meaning.
