Madman Entertainment new Acquisitions at SMASH 2012

posted on by Jon Hayward
Madman Entertainment made the following announcements at their industry panel at SMASH 2012 on Saturday;

Mahoromatic: I'm Home!

Mahoromatic: I'm Home! is a two episode special set between episodes 2 and 3 of Mahoromatic: Something More Beautiful (Mahoromatic S2) . It follows Suguru Misato and his maids, Minawa-chan and Mahoro-san who just happen to be combat robots as they prepare a maid cafe for their town's 120 year anniversary.

This special was created by Studio Gainax in 2009, almost six years after Mahoromatic: Something More Beautiful finished airing. The director of the Mahoromatic: Summer Special Shouji Saeki, returned alongside original series character designer, Kazuhiro Takamura who also oversaw the animation production for this project. Tatsuhiko Urahata (Strawberry Panic!, Ichigo 100%) wrote the scripts based on Bow Ditama and Bunjuro Nakayama's original Mahoromatic manga. Many of the original cast returned to voice acting duties including Ayako Kawasumi as Mahoro Ando, Fujiko Takimoto as Suguru Misato and Ai Shimizu as Minawa Ando.

Shangri-La

Based on a science fiction light novel by Eiichi Ikegami and illustrated by Kenichi Yoshida, Shangri-La is set in the ashes of a future tokyo, where global warming has forced the government to turn the city into the worlds biggest forest city, Atlas. However Atlas can only hold so many people and a chosen elite at that so 18 year old Kuniko Houjou (Mikako Takahashi) is caught up in the fight between the government and it's less-privileged masses living in the jungle outside Atlas' doors.

The staff includes director Makoto Bessho (Ah! My Goddess: The Movie, Armitage: Dual-Matrix), series script supervisor Hiroshi Ohnogi (Arjuna, Noein - to your other self), and character designer Range Murata (Blue Submarine No. 6, Last Exile).

Strike Witches 2

The sequel series to Strike Witches continues to adapt Humikane Shimada's mecha-girl illustrations. After finding they can communicate with their enemy and striking peace with them, the Neuroi suddenly disappear and a new nest the size of Europe is found. Ruthlessly and without mercy it annihilates allied forces along with Witches. This brings the now-civilian Yoshika Miyafuji (Misato Fukuen) out of retirement alongside her former captain Mio Sakamoto (Saori Seto) to save their friends and bring an end to the threat of the Neuroi.

While this series is animated by AIC (compared to Gonzo that handled season one) most of the main staff returned including director and anime character designer Kazuhiro Takamura, the series script supervisor "Striker Unit" and Takaaki Suzuki who helped to develop the setting and advised on Military History.

Further information will be added as we find out more details.
