Mr. Osomatsu, Kizumonogatari Top DVD & Blu-ray Rankings

The limited edition Blu-ray release of SHAFT's Kizumonogatari Part 1: Tekketsu film based on NisiOisin's light novel series sold 36,018 copies in its first week of release, putting it at the top of Oricon's overall Blu-ray sales chart for the week. The standard DVD edition also ranked third on Oricon's Animation DVD sales chart. The Blu-ray is the Monogatari series' second straight volume in a row to rank #1, and the 19th #1 volume from the franchise.

The Kizumonogatari film project is a trilogy, and the first film opened in Japan on January 8. The second film is slated for an August 19 debut in Japan. Aniplex of America screened Kizumonogatari in the United States and Canada.

The limited edition seventh volume of the Mr. Osomatsu television anime series also ranked first in Oricon's general DVD sales chart with 18,132 copies sold in its first week. Its corresponding Blu-ray volume ranked #2 behind Kizumonogatari with 16,630 copies sold. The DVD is the third volume in the franchise to rank #1 on the overall chart.

The Mr. Osomatsu home video releases have continued to top sales charts. Its the first television anime to have two consecutive top-selling DVD releases in a row. The fourth and fifth volumes ranked #1 on the Oricon charts.

Fujio Akatsuka's original Osomatsu-kun manga and "high tension comedy" TV anime centered on the Matsuno household, which has six naughty and mischievous sons (who are sextuplets). All of the sextuplets, including the eldest Osomatsu, are all in love with the same girl, Totoko. The original series followed the family when the sons were 10 years old. The Mr. Osomatsu show re-imagines the original manga and TV anime with the sextuplets as adults.

The series premiered last October. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan.

Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt: December Sky came in third on the Blu-ray chart, followed by the Joker Game Blu-ray box set, and KonoSuba! volume five.
