New Owarimonogatari Anime Adapts 3rd Novel Volume in Summer

Adapts "Mayoi Hell," "Hitagi Rendezvous," "Ōgi Dark" arcs

The official website for the Monogatari Series revealed on Saturday that the third novel in the NisiOisin's Owarimonogatari novels series is getting a television anime adaptation in summer. The site is streaming a promotional video for the anime (Note: The YouTube video on the site is region-locked to Japan).

The third novel covers the "Mayoi Hell," "Hitagi Rendezvous," and "Ōgi Dark" arcs. Monogatari series producer Atsuhiro Iwakami stated in September 2015 that the scenario for the Owarimonogatari novel series' third volume had already been written up, but that the production team was still deliberating on how best to present it.

The first Owarimonogatari anime, covering the first two novels in the series (which includes the "Ōgi Formula," "Sodachi Riddle," and "Sodachi Lost" chapters from the first novel, as well as the "Shinobu Mail" chapter from the second novel), premiered in October 2015. Crunchyroll and Daisuki both streamed the series as it aired.

The three-volume Owarimonogatari novel is part of the "final season" of the Monogatari series. The first volume shipped with the stories "Ōgi Formula," "Sodachi Riddle," and "Sodachi Lost" in October 2013. The second volume shipped in January 2014 with the story "Shinobu Mail." The third volume shipped in April 2014.

The novel series' "final season" ended with Zoku Owarimonogatari in September 2015, but it features a teaser for "Monogatari Series, Next Season Tsugimonogatari." Orokamonogatari, Wazamonogatari, and Nademonogatari, shipped in October 2015 and January 2016, and July 2016, respectively. Musubimonogatari, the fourth "Off Season" novel, shipped on January 12.

Vertical published the earlier Kizumonogatari novel in December 2015, and began publishing the original Mongatari Series novels beginning December 2016 with the Bakemonogatari novels. The Kizumonogatari novel inspired an anime film trilogy.

Aniplex of America is releasing the anime adaptations of the Monogatari Series in North America.
