Free London Screenings of Night is Short and Live-Action Thermae Romae

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Screenings should be booked in advance: Night is Short, Walk On Girl on June 26, Thermae Romae on June 29

The Japan Foundation has announced screenings of a number of comedy films in June, including the following two films related to anime and manga:

Wednesday June 26, 6.15 p.m: Night is Short, Walk on Girl, pictured right, directed by Masaaki Yuasa. Screening at The Soho Hotel in Richmond Mews (see link for map). ‘Senpai’ is a man smitten with his inscrutable junior, The Girl with Black Hair. Though he plans to woo her by engineering a series of “coincidental” encounters, his plans are foiled at every turn by her exploratory nature as she roams through an abstract, bustling night in Kyoto. Will ‘Senpai’ succeed in grabbing the attention of the girl?

Saturday June 29, 5.15 p.m: Thermae Romae, pictured left; this is the live-action film version of the manga by Mari Yamazaki. Screening at The Soho Hotel in Richmond Mews (see link for map). Lucius (Hiroshi Abe), an architect of spa baths for the Roman Empire, inadvertently travels through time and finds himself inspired by a modern Japanese bathhouse. Based on a popular manga of the same title, this raucous comedy combines the twin clashes of time and culture, taking as its theme one of Japan's best loved pastimes - bathing.

The screenings are free but should be booked through the respective links.
