I think I've read more discussion of volume 3 content than the volume actually being reviewed.
Pretty much agreed with the review. This is my favorite section of PMMM. I was not a fan of how it ends, but we'll cross that bridge when the third volume gets reviewed. |

I disagree with you saying that the term deus ex machina does not fit. There were things that occurred in the ending which were either outside the framework of the show or weren't properly explained. I won't go into too much detail here, maybe more in the main thread, but a few short examples would be: spoiler[ The fact that her wish brings people back to life. Even given the implications of her wish, it is not 100% true that they would be alive again even in an alternate universe, particularly given what we see happen to Sayaka. Also, without the witches, most of these characters (not just Madoka) would never have met and much of the set up for the eventual ending would never have happened. The paradox is not fully explored, but instead they just kind of wrap things up and expect you not to ask those questions.] Edit: I added in the link to the main discussion thread. animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=147279&start=630 |

Verrs: I wasn't talking about that. I was, about...
spoiler[The minor sci-fi aspects intrduced by Kyubey. They came out of nowhere and felt kinda cheesy. And the justfication for why only magical exist was just strange (what, boys don't have highly fluctuating emotions, too? And tween girls have the most amount of fluctuating energy? Way to pay lip service to the lolicon crowd, Gen.) And, Kyōko's final act. I knew her plan would fail--it was actually crushing to see her suggest the plan, knowing that it wouldn't work. But, what she finally did was just...I dunno. Okay, she's summoned some crazy-huge spears, time to kick some ass, I gues--wait, what? She self-destructed her soul gem?! When in god's name was that ability ever even forshadowed in the show? And what the hell was her decision anyway? Turn into a witch to stay with Sayaka forever? Great, Homu and Madoka are gonna have to kill BOTH of them now. I was watching with my friend, I'll admit, so I was slightly distracted. But still. It's like Gen said "Shit, let's make them suffer even MORE". ] This show is amazing, and one of the best anime of the recent decade, but it's quickly becoming psychological Torture Porn. |

Curently watching it on Crunchyroll and this show garners every ammount of praise it's gotten I'm glad to see it's still being praised although the criticisism of Madoka not "doing anything."
I think that her indesciveness is a corner stone of her charcter much like like Shinji from Eva also much like Shinji from Eva big emtional ressonce with the charcter. |

Sounds like i'll enjoy this part more than the first four. It's an interesting story, and I enjoy that it seems a bit more serious in regards to the content.
My least favorite part of the first disc were the witch battles. It just felt like they were trying too hard. Hey, look at all this wacky crazy stuff we can throw on the screen. I never got the feel as the witches as individuals because there wasn't anything distinctive about one world to the next. Maybe that's the point, that they're all cut from the same cloth. But knowing there's less of them on disc 2 sounds good to me. |

Well, it was bound to happen eventually. Madoka is the most expensive blind buy I have ever purchased, and I haven't watched ANY of it yet. I've been reading these reviews to keep my pumped for when I do start it. |

The final four will explain the cause of her indecisiveness. |

The hype ruined it for me. Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

I'm interested, but I would rather wait until all the episodes have been released.

Well, the reason there was so much fan speculation is that it's sort of an obvious twist to make. Frankly, it'd have been more surprising if that wasn't the case. |

I still think no matter how good this series is (and it's excellent), it does not warrant 45 dollars for 4 episodes..even on bluray. Aniplex thinks we're all Japanese. Though I have some Japanese friends who find that price insane but they're use to not being able to afford their favorite shows unforunately. Over here though, 12-13 episodes should be around 40 dollars, not 180...
The show great though. I do find it very overhyped and the ending was overrated for how convenient it was..(I'm hoping they fix this with the 2nd and 3rd movies) |

Agreed. Let's keep a damper on discussing the ending for now, people; there will be plenty of time for that in a couple of months.
Oh, it's absolutely overpriced; no question about that. Expecting a 12-13 ep series for $40 retail (as opposed to that much on sale) is unrealistic, but $135 is considerably more than we typically would have paid for the series back in the days when singles dominate - even with the BR thrown in. |

I'll admit that the pricing for Madoka might be slightly high, but not by much.
Really? If that were the case, why aren't US buyers paying the ~$380 (at current exchange rates; I didn't note the price that I paid in dollars. Sorry.) that the Japanese release cost me (¥5133x6). We're getting a pretty good price for the LEs, and a bargain for the RE release.
We pay far too little for anime over here. $40 is too cheap. I'm not looking for Japanese pricing over here, but prices should be a bit higher. |
