Legend of the Galactic Heroes Anime's Posters Feature Character Quotes

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

To mark the April 3 debut of The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These, the new anime of Yoshiki Tanaka's epic science fiction novels Legend of the Galactic Heroes, posters with characters' famous sayings are on display at various train stations in Tokyo. The posters went up on Monday, and they will remain on display on platforms at all 29 train stations of JR East's Yamanote Line until April 8.

In order to honor the history of the franchise and tie in to the new anime's premiere, the posters feature a total of 42 sayings. The quotes include Kircheis asking if Reinhard is looking at the stars and Reinhard's "Yes, the stars are nice" reply as he looks at Kircheis. On another poster, Kircheis says, "Formalities may be necessary, but there are also silly things."

Posters that display the new anime's character designs as well as the designs from the earlier OVA adaptation directed by Noboru Ishiguro are also on display in a passageway near the ticket gate in Shinagawa Station. The character posters will be on display during the same period as the posters with quotes.

In addition, advertisements with comments from various The Legend of the Galactic Heroes fans are on display at Tokyo Metro subway stations. The ads feature comments from singer-songwriter Ryūichi Kawamura, who played Yang Wen-li in stage musical adaptations of the novels; actress Kaname Ōki, who played Reinhard in all-female Takarazuka stage productions; kabuki actor Onoe Shoroku IV, who is a known fan of the franchise; Iwate Prefecture governor Takuya Tasso; and other fans who sent messages through the anime's official website.

Shochiku began streaming a "chronicle" promotional video on Sunday that tracks the history of the franchise.

The anime will premiere on the Family Gekijo channel on April 3 at 9:00 p.m. (8:00 a.m. EDT). The show will then air on Tokyo MX on April 5 at 10:30 p.m., and on MBS and BS11 on April 7 at 26:38 and 25:30 (effectively April 8 morning at 2:38 a.m. and 1:30 a.m.), respectively. Crunchyroll will stream the series with subtitles, and Funimation will stream the series with an English dub.

The first season, The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These Kaikō (The New Thesis: Star-Crossed), will air as a 12-episode series. The event screenings of the second "season," The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These Seiran (The New Thesis: Stellar War), will then play in theaters, as three films of four episodes each, in 2019.
