K-ON! Film Sells 700,000+ Tickets After 16 Days

The Eiga.com website reported on Monday that the K-ON! film has sold over 700,000 tickets and earned nearly one billion yen (about US$12.8 million) in the 16 days since its December 3 opening. Over the weekend, the movie based on kakifly's slice-of-life comedy manga ranked fifth at the Japanese box office behind Friends: Mononoke Shima no Naki.

Last week, the same site revealed that the K-ON! film sold 523,274 tickets and made 691,086,400 yen (about US$8.86 million) in the nine days after its premiere. According to the film journalist Hiroo Otaka, the sequel film earned 316,310,000 yen (about US$4,054,000) on 137 screens during its first weekend.
