Teekyū Anime About Girls' Tennis Team Gets 3rd Season

posted on by Sarah Nelkin
2nd season of anime adaptation of Roots and Piyo's manga premiered last month

Manga creator Roots announced on his official Twitter account on Sunday that a third season of the anime adaptation of Roots' and Piyo's Teekyū manga has been green-lit, and will air in October.

Piyo's original manga centers around a girls' tennis team. (The title is a wordplay on a Japanese term for tennis, teikyū.) However, the four high school girls on the team hardly play any actual tennis. The tennis manga has already received two anime adaptations, with the second season premiering last month.

Piyo launched the manga in Earth Star Entertainment's Comic Earth Star magazine in early 2012, and the first anime season was announced just months later on the manga's first book volume. Earth Star Entertainment claims that this is the fastest television anime adaptation ever. The fourth volume of the manga was released in June. Crunchyroll is streaming the second season as it airs in Japan.
