posted on by Alex Mateo

Music producer and DJ Porter Robinson began streaming the animated music video, created in association with A-1 Pictures (Sword Art Online, Fairy Tail, Blue Exorcist) and Crunchyroll, for his song "SHELTER" on Tuesday.

Robinson was the scriptwriter and executive producer, and Toshifumi Akai (animation director on Magi: The Kingdom of Magic, Toradora!, Kokoro Connect) served as the director. Megumi Kouno (chief animation director for The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls) handled key animation and character design. Sachika Misawa (Accel World) provided the voice of the main character Rin.

The video's description is as follows:

Shelter tells the story of Rin, a 17-year-old girl who lives her life inside of a futuristic simulation completely by herself in infinite, beautiful loneliness. Each day, Rin awakens in virtual reality and uses a tablet which controls the simulation to create a new, different, beautiful world for herself. Until one day, everything changes, and Rin comes to learn the true origins behind her life inside a simulation.

Robinson stated that Japanese pop culture and anime have influenced his music. He describes his video as a "concrete distillation of being immersed into fantasy and it's connection to reality."
