Odex Film Festival in Singapore Screens 3 Anime Films, 1 Live-Action Film in September

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Odex announced on Wednesday that it will hold its film festival in Singapore on September 2 to 4 at D'Marquee @ Downtown East and Cathay Cineplex Downtown East. The event will screen the One Piece Film Red, Gekijо̄ban Isekai Quartet ~Another World~, The Quintessential Quintuplets the Movie, and Shin Ultraman films.

Crunchyroll will theatrically screen the One Piece Film Red anime film in North America, Australia, and New Zealand, and it describes the film:

Uta —the most beloved singer in the world. Renowned for concealing her own identity when performing, her voice has come to be described as “otherworldly.” Now, for the first time ever, Uta will herself to the world at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans —excited pirates, the Navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance —the voice that the whole world has been waiting for is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is Shanks' daughter.

The film will open in Japan on August 6. The film will have its general opening in Singapore on September 29.

The film will center on a new character named Uta, Shanks' daughter. Kaori Nazuka will be the speaking voice of Uta, while Ado will be the character's singing voice. Ado will also perform the film's theme song "Shinjidai" ("New Genesis").

Goro Taniguchi (Code Geass, One Piece: Defeat The Pirate Ganzak! special) is directing One Piece Film Red. Tsutomu Kuroiwa (One Piece Film Gold, One Piece: Heart of Gold, GANTZ:O, live-action Black Butler) is writing the screenplay, and One Piece manga creator Eiichiro Oda himself is serving as executive producer.

Oda also designed the "battle wear" characters for the film, which have a theme of "rock x pirates" and feature leather and studs for a Middle Ages armor vibe.

The Gekijо̄ban Isekai Quartet ~Another World~ (Isekai Quartet the Movie: Another World) crossover anime film opened in Japan on June 10. In the film, the characters can transport themselves to an alternate world due to a wormhole that suddenly opened in the classroom. They all arrive at a world ruled by an out-of-control golem. They also encounter a golem girl whose personality is similar to Megumin, a cane-wielding man who seems to know Subaru, and a woman dressed in the same uniform as Tanya's. Our intrepid group strives to return to their world.

The film features the returning cast and staff from the anime's first two seasons. Minoru Ashina (Kaiju Girls, Pure Pure Purea Desu Overlord shorts) wrote the script and directed the anime. Minoru Takehara served as both character designer and chief animation director. Studio Puyukai (Kaiju Girls, Lord Marksman and Vanadis, Pure Pure Purea Desu Overlord shorts) animated the work.

The 12th and final episode of the Isekai Quartet 2 anime had revealed in April 2020 that the series was getting a sequel.

The anime is a crossover series between the Re:Zero, Overlord, KONOSUBA, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil franchises. Isekai Quartet 2 also features characters from The Rising of The Shield Hero franchise. The first season premiered in Japan in April 2019. Aniplus-Asia aired the anime as it aired in Japan. Muse Asia and Aniplus-Asia aired the second season as it aired in Japan.

The Quintessential Quintuplets the Movie sequel anime film opened in Japan on May 20, and its runtime exceeds 130 minutes. The film serves as the finale for the story. The film sold approximately 290,000 tickets to earn 389,509,100 yen (about US$3.05 million) in its first three days.

The film has sold a total of 1.5 million tickets, and has earned a cumulative total of 2,058,118,480 yen (about US$14.87 million), as of July 20. It will screen in 91 additional theaters in Japan beginning this Friday.

The anime's first season premiered in January 2019 and aired for 12 episodes. The anime's second season aired from January 2021 to March 2021.

Kodansha Comics released Negi Haruba's original manga digitally and in print in North America, and it describes the story:

A-and they're all gorgeous girls, but they're also troublemakers who hate to study and are on the verge of flunking out! And his first task is simply gaining the sisters' trust?!
