Muse Asia Licenses Shangri-la Frontier, A Returner's Magic Should Be Special Anime

Muse Asia announced last Friday and Saturday that it has licensed the television anime of Katarina's Shangri-La Frontier web novel and the anime adaptation of Wookjakga's A Returner's Magic Should Be Special (Kikansha no Mahō wa Tokubetsu Desu in Japanese) Korean webcomic.

Muse Aisa will stream the Shangri-La Frontier anime in October. The anime will premiere in Japan on October 1.

Kodansha USA Publishing publishes Ryōsuke Fuji's manga adaptation of Katarina's Shangri-La Frontier web novel, and it describes the story:

Second year high school student Rakurō Hizutome is interested in one thing only: finding "shitty games" and beating the crap out of them. His gaming skills are second to none, and no game is too bad for him to enjoy. So when he's introduced to the new VR game Shangri-La Frontier, he does what he does best—min-maxes and skips the prologue to jump straight into the action. But can even an expert gamer like Rakurō discover all the secrets that Shangri-La Frontier hides...?

Toshiyuki Kubooka (Harukana Receive, Wandering Witch - The Journey of Elaina) is directing the anime at C2C with assistant director Hiroki Ikeshita, and Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Black Clover, Dropkick on My Devil!, Hetalia The Beautiful World, In the Land of Leadale, Record of Ragnarok) is supervising and writing the series scripts. Ayumi Kurashima (DEVILMAN crybaby, Megalobox 2: Nomad) is serving as character designer and chief animation director. monaca is composing the music.

Muse Asia will announce distribution details for the A Returner's Magic Should Be Special anime at a later date.

The anime will premiere in October.

Yen Press is releasing the series in English and it describes the story:

In a time when the Shadow World has taken over and most of humanity is wiped out, a party of six heroes strives and fails to save the world… But magician Desir Herman is given a second chance when he opens his eyes and finds that he's gone back thirteen years in the past! It's now up to him to gather his party once more and stop the greatest catastrophe in human history!

Taishi Kawaguchi is directing the anime at Arvo Animation. Takamitsu Kouno (She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man, Absolute Duo, We Without Wings - Under the Innocent Sky) is writing and supervising the scripts for the anime. Hiromi Kato (Violinist of Hamelin, Kobato., Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut) is designing the characters. Eiji Iwase is the art director, and Masahiro Kama is credited for art assistance. Kazushige Kanehira, Akihiro Hirasawa, Yasuhiro Okumura, and Tomoyasu Fujise are credited for art design. Hideki Imaizumi is the director of photography. Kenta Higashiohji (Pole Princess!!) is composing the music.
