Kodansha Comics Adds Frau Faust, Fairy Tail: Rhodonite, Kigurumi Defense Squad, Aho Girl, Hōseki no Kuni, More Manga

North American manga publisher Kodansha Comics announced at its panel at New York Comic Con on Thursday that it has licensed the following 10 manga:

• Taiki Kawakami and Fuse's Tenseishitara Slime Datta Ken (Regarding My Reincarnation as a Slime, English title tentative)
• Kyōta Shibano and Hiro Mashima's Fairy Tail: Rhodonite
• Musawo Tsumugi's Love and Lies (Koi to Uso)
• Lily Hoshino's Kigurumi Defense Squad (Kigurumi Bōei-tai)
• Rin Mikimoto's Kiss Me at the Stroke of Midnight (Gozen 0-ji, Kiss Shi ni Kite yo)
• Kore Yamazaki's Frau Faust
• Mei Morino's Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty (Ohayō, Ibara-hime)
• Anashin's Waiting for Spring (Harumatsu Bokura)
• Hiroyuki's Ahogaru: Clueless Girl (Aho Girl)
• Haruko Ichikawa's Land of the Lustrous (Hōseki no Kuni)

Kodansha Comics describes Regarding My Reincarnation as a Slime (pictured above right):

Fuse and Kawakami launched the series in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine last year, and Kodansha published the manga's second compiled volume on April 28. Kodansha will publish the manga's third volume on November 30. The manga is based on Fuse and Mitz Vah's light novel series of the same name, which launched in 2014.

Kodansha Comics will release the manga's first volume in summer 2017.

Shibano launched the Fairy Tail: Rhodonite manga in Kodansha's "Magazine Pocket" app in November 2015, and ended the manga in March. Kodansha published the manga's one compiled volume in Japan on May 17. Kodansha Comics describes the manga:

Kodansha Comics will release the manga in summer 2017.

Shibano also drew the one-volume Fairy Tail: Twin Dragons of Sabertooth manga, and the one volume Fairy Tail Gaiden: Raigō Issen (Fairy Tail Spinoff: Flash of Great Lightning) manga. Kodansha Comics will release Fairy Tail: Twin Dragons of Sabertooth in English in December. Kodansha will publish the one compiled volume of Fairy Tail Gaiden: Raigō Issen in Japan on November 17.

Tsumugi launched the ongoing Love and Lies manga on DeNA's MangaBox app in both English and Japanese in 2014. MangaBox describes the series:

Lies are forbidden and love is doubly forbidden. In the near future, when young people in Japan turn sixteen, they are assigned a marriage partner by the government. People don't have to go through the trouble of looking for someone, and everyone accepts that the country will find a compatible partner to make them happy. Yukari Nejima is fifteen years old. He lives in a small corner of the country, and just can't seem to get ahead in life. Both academically and athletically he's below average. But in within him, he hides a heart burning with passion! In this world in which love is forbidden, what will happen to him when he falls in love?

Kodansha will publish the manga's fifth compiled volume in Japan on November 9. Kodansha Comics will release the manga's first volume in summer 2017.

Hoshino (Penguindrum character designer) launched the Kigurumi Defense Squad manga first as a one-shot in Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine in 2013 before turning it into a full series later that year. The manga centers on Hakka Sasakura, a normal 14-year-old girl who comes home one day to find a person in a giant animal-suit named "Ginger" in her house. Ginger tells Hakka she's chosen to be a guardian to fight the impending invasion of extra-dimensional beings. Hakka is even more surprised to find the animal-suited guardians transform into really attractive boys. Kodansha Comics will debut the manga in English in summer 2017.

Kodansha shipped the third compiled volume in Japan in April 2015. Hoshino is currently on hiatus after giving birth to a boy last month. Hoshino's Otome Yōkai Zakuro inspired a 13-episode television anime series that aired in 2010. NIS America released the anime on DVD in 2012.

Mikimoto launched Kiss Me at the Stroke of Midnight in Kodansha's Bessatsu Friend magazine in 2015. Kodansha Comics describes the series:

A comedy twist on the shojo heroine who yearns for a “fairy tale romance.”
What do you get when an ordinary girl looking for love meets a “prince” in a perverted actor?
A reality-based Cinderella story

Kodansha published the manga's fourth compiled volume in Japan on September 13. Kodansha Comics will debut the manga in English in summer 2017.

Yamazaki (The Ancient Magus' Bride) launched Frau Faust in Kodansha's Itan magazine in 2014. Kodansha Comics describes the series:

An inventive take on the classic Faust legend
Faust is a badass female scholar!
For romance, supernatural, fantasy, and josei fans! Everyone, really.

The company will debut the series in English in fall 2017. Kodansha published the manga's third volume in Japan on July 7.

Seven Seas Entertainment publishes Yamazaki's The Ancient Magus' Bride manga in North America. The manga is inspiring an ongoing three-part OVA series, and Crunchyroll is streaming the anime's first part.

Morino launched Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty in Kodansha's Dessert magazine in 2014.

Kodansha Comics describes the series:

Anashin launched Waiting for Spring in Kodansha's Dessert magazine in 2014. Kodansha Comics describes the series:

The company will release the first volume in summer 2017.

Hiroyuki (Doujin Work) launched the four-panel comedy manga Ahogaru: Clueless Girl in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2012. Kodansha Comics describes the series:

Yoshiko, a truly clueless high school girl, is never far from over the top hijinks. Her childhood friend has no choice but to look out for her!

Kodansha Comics will debut the manga in summer 2017. Kodansha is publishing the manga's eighth compiled volume in Japan on Friday.

Hiroyuki's Doujin Work manga inspired a 12-episode television anime series in 2007 that Media Blasters released on home video. Media Blasters previously also released the manga's first four volumes in English in 2009. Hiroyuki's The Comic Artist and His Assistants manga also inspired a 12-episode television anime series that aired in 2014. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired and Sentai Filmworks released the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc last year.

Ichikawa launched Land of the Lustrous in Kodansha's Afternoon magazine in 2012. The manga's story takes place in the distant future, where a new life form called "hōseki" (gems) is born. The 28 gems must fight against the "tsukijin" (moon people) who want to attack them and turn them into decorations, so each gem is assigned a role such as a fighter or a medic. Phos is a gem who hopes to fight the moon people, but is given no assignment until the gems' manager asks Phos to edit a natural history magazine.

Kodansha Comics will release the first volume in summer 2017. Kodansha published the manga's sixth compiled volume in Japan on September 23.

The manga series ranked at #10 on Kono Manga ga Sugoi!'s "Top 20 Manga for Male Readers" list in 2014, and it was also nominated for the eighth Manga Taisho awards in 2015.

The manga inspired a promotional anime video in 2013.
